Skin Treatment for Sensitive Skins

By Fisiwe Owen

Looking after sensitive skin is governed by a few basic rules, but before we delve into the rules for sensitive skin care, it's important to understand what a sensitive skin is. Someone suffering with sensitive skin will usually have a problem with everyday products and environments that most of us take for granted. This problem may affect you at any age and once it does you will probably have to start using sensitive skin care products specially formulated for this type of condition.

The degree of sensitivity can however vary from person to person and depending on that, the type of skin care procedures may vary too. What is know however, is that almost everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin will have a reaction to any type of detergent and other cleaning products.

Even though we can all experience skin damage from our environment and products we use it is often down to the individual tolerance of the person affected. This tolerance level is very low for sensitive skin types, leading to the skin becoming damaged very easily and quickly.

A few tips for choosing the right sensitive skin care products are suggested below, these are products which where possible avoid known skin irritants or reduce them to the lowest concentration possible. The way to reduce the effects of the skin sensitivity is too source sensitive skin care products and make sure only these are used but if you know what area your sensitivity lies in then check the ingredients carefully to make sure there is nothing contained you should be wary of.

Even within the range of sensitive skin care products available, choose those that have the minimum of preservatives, colorings and other additives. Skin toners are also to be avoided as the active ingredient is alcohol and this will almost certainly irritate your already sensitive skin further.

One of the most common skin problems associated with the hands is using detergent and often for people without sensitive skin so always wear some form of protective hand wear. Another situation that causes a problem for sensitive skin is the sun so if you intend to go out in strong sunlight, you will need to apply a special sunscreen.

It isn't just the sun that can cause problems out of doors either as just normal atmospheric pollution; even dust particles can cause skin irritation so you will need to apply a hypoallergenic moisturizer or special skin care cream to combat this. When you have finished outdoors you will need to clean your face but with a soap and alcohol free cleanser as both of these will irritate the skin, remembering not to clean to vigorously or that to will cause the skin to become red.

For women that wear makeup, it is recommended that it not be worn for too long and that once again only hypoallergenic skin care products are used. While there is a great deal to think about if you have a sensitive skin condition, it is a matter of getting into a routine and know what causes the irritation as this will save you time and distress. - 16083
