Coffee - A Short History

By Karl

It is hard to verify the true origins of coffee.

It is often said that the effects of coffee was first experienced by a sheephearder that was tending his sheep.

His sheep became very active when they ate a certain type of berry off a plant.

The sheephearder tried the berry himself and had the same results.

Rumor has it that a monk told him to be careful of the devil's fruit.

There is another rumor that monks did eat the devil's fruit to keep them awake during long prayer sessions.

Another story is that an Arabian man was given a sentence of banishment to the desert.

He tried boiling and eating an unknown plant.

He was fortunate enought to survive by eating the unknown plant.

Nearby residents of a town close to the desert felt that the mans survival was a religous message.

The plant became known as Mocha, named after the desert town.

It is said that the coffee plant was originally found only in Ethiopia.

Ethiopian warriors used it as food while they went on raids.

It was transported to Arabia, it grew, and they controlled the market of it.

The first to actually drink coffee as we know it today were the Turks.

They added spices such as clove and cinnamon to create a sweeter taste.

Coffee found its way to Europe via the Venetian trade merchants.

Soon after, coffee became a popular drink and coffee houses began to be built.

In today's society, drinking coffee is enjoyed by people from all over the world.

There are many brands and flavors of coffee for everyone to enjoy, so try some? - 16083
