Curly Hair Length

By Cynthia Ramona

Finding the best hair length is not always that easy. Whether you are a male or female, some lengths will look great and some just won't work. Whenever you find the right length, you wait a little too long and end up with a desperate need for a haircut. Deciding on a good hair length can be even harder if you have curly hair. You don't want it too long or too short.

Keeping curly hair short can be difficult yet easy. With short hair, no more than 5 inches long, can be easy to take care of for several reasons. First of all, because it's so short, it's always the healthiest hair possible. With less than 5 inches you are constantly getting new growth. This helps your hair to behave better.

You will also get more curly hair the shorter it is because you have less hair to weigh it down. This isn't always a good thing. You could end up with an afro if it curls just a little too much.

If you are considering cutting your hair really short, talk with your hairdresser about exactly what you want. Make sure it's something that you can easily maintain and that will look right. Be careful cutting it too short make sure you want to because even though you can grow it again, there will be that awkward in between stage.

Shoulder length or medium length hair is a very popular way to wear curly hair because it almost always looks great. It's not so short that it will curl too much but it's not so long that the hair will weigh it down and pull out the curls either. Try out different lengths and shapes to get your hair where you want it.

Long hair with curls can look beautiful but be tricky. One problem with long hair is that the longer it gets, the older it is. If you have damaged hair that you blow dry, straighten, and color often, your hair will look damaged.

Curly hair needs a lot of moisture and to be left alone from heat and color as much as possible. If you want to grow your hair long, be sure to trim it every so often, preferably every month if you are at the length you like, to remove damaged hair.

Long hair poses some other problems as well. If your hair isn't really curly, long hair can end up pulling the curls straight because if the weight. If it's really frizzy, you could end up with a giant poof. You can grow it long, just be prepared to have extra products to keep it under control. - 16083
