Dr. Nafthali Primor, Research and Development Manager of Shulov Institute for Sciences was the first researcher to propose snake venom as an effective natural pain relief for arthritis.
Primor and his group have uncovered some powerful chemicals in the venom of various species of cobras, vipers, and rattle snakes. These are effective as analgesics for severe pain due to a number of diseases, including cancer and especially arthritis which usually leads to debilitating pain.
History of Snake Venom Use
Though Primor's study was the first official recognition of the healing properties of snake venom, the idea has been popular for years. Long before Dr. Primor published his study, there were already reports of successful arthritis treatment through snake bites.
The first reported case was that of a 66 year old Englishman who suffered from chronic arthritis. Accidentally getting bitten by a snake, he announced on the BBC channel in 2002 that the joint pain on his finger was gone at least three to four weeks after the bite. Unfortunately, the pain returned soon after, first only mildly for 2 months, but then resuming fully in the succeeding months. Soon enough, the snake bite phenomenon piqued the interest of different people back then.
Snake Venom and Dr. Primor
At a young age, Dr. Primor already revealed a certain fascination for snakes. He quickly became involved with the study of the medicinal potential of snake venom. This is probably why he was destined to eventually reveal snake venom arthritis treatment methods.
In the 80s, the Russian researcher Dr. Shulov informed Dr. Nafthali Primor that Russians have long been using snake venom salves to alleviate chronic aches and pains. This information inspired Dr. Primor to research the concept further.
Arthritis Treatment with Snake Venom
The original analgesic invented was the VeP-3, which was derived from the venom of Palestinian Vipers. Primor realized that of the thousands of molecules present in the the venom of snakes, barely four to five molecules are in fact venomous. This indicates that at least 99 percent of snake venom is non-poisonous and thus may be harvested for numerous medicinal possibilities.
Dr. Nafthali Primor now intends to perfect a snake venom pain relief salve to specifically target arthritis pain. He mentions as an example a "super aspirin" pill by Merck & Company named "Aggrastat", which has been proven to prevent heart attacks and blood clots. This "super aspirin" is also made of snake venom.
At present, snake venom arthritis methods still offer several possibilities. Scientists and doctors still devise new ways wherein snake venom can be safely and effectively used for a variety of healing potentials. Scientific studies also aim to create a potent cream that will completely cure arthritis. For the meantime, while the world awaits more advances relating to snake venom, you are strictly advised not to risk your own body by trying to get bitten by snakes. - 16083
