Just Golfing in the Rain

By Golf Guru Guy

Why is it all the best golf courses tend to be in rainy areas If youre as much of a golf nut as I am, youve certainly slogged your way to many a soggy green. Fortunately, there are quite a few products to help make your wet game more enjoyable and less, well, wet!

The right golf rain gear is important. All golf rain gear is constructed from lightweight fabric that allows free movement of the arms for an unencumbered golf-swing, and is completely silent and keeps the wearer comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. Unfortunately, high quality golf rain gear is expensive. Golf Guru Guy (GGG) has scouted out some good deals. Just click on Golf Rain Gear link on the home page and see who gets the GGG seal of approval

Rain Gear Essentials include your bag, hat, gloves and umbrella. That's all most players would probably think they need when braving the rains. A good jacket and hat are essential (And can be quite pricey, though we've found some great jackets for less than $150), but let the veterans of the golf rounds in monsoon season suggest a few more pieces of equipment to gird yourself with.

The Bag: You want a golf bag that keeps everything dry, from your clubs to that iPod you'd rather not have in your pants while you're trying to fetch a ball out of a water trap. It's an essential part of the wet-yip's arsenal. After all, there's nothing worse than letting your phone get rained on. Except maybe running it through the wash. Not that I have experience with that, of course...

Gloves: The Wetter the Better! Son, if you can't keep a grip on your club you're next to useless in the war against the ball! Rather than have a pair of gloves that only worsen as the weather does, invest in a pair of rain gloves. Your grip will stay sure no matter how wet it gets!

Wet Shoes for Dry Feet: Golf shoes that are waterproof are priceless (Though we still managed to find a few good deals for you), as they keep your feet dry and they're usually guaranteed, to boot! So, even if they do get wet, you're covered. Just keep the receipt! As your Vietnam veteran golf buddies will tell you, "Keep your feet dry." Be sure to invest in more than one pair to make sure the shoes have time to dry between rounds, and bring extra socks! Lieutenant Dan will tell you that there's no such thing as too many socks!

The Umbrella: Cover from Above! A good golf umbrella goes a long way to make rain less distracting to a would-be wet-vet. And the true wet vets will tell you to not be stingy here! Get an umbrella with vents. This will keep it from inverting when you need it most.

While not a complete list, these are the must-haves for any golfer getting his round rained on. Dont go crazy (Unless you like dressing your tees in little ponchos, that is), but definitely look into some of the higher end stuff if you can afford it. If you dont mind braving the elements in order to enjoy a round, do yourself a favor: get some decent golf rain gear. Of course, if you want to be a literal wet-yip, who am I to argue? - 16083
