Airsoft Safety is Important

By Alexander Malroy

Airsoft guns are safe, its spherical non-metallic pellets unleashed from a compressed air gun, manual spring-load, gas powered or electronically powered gearbox is safe enough for the recreational activities it represents. However, precautionary measures for such exercise are imperative just like any undertakings that involve confrontational exercise between two opposing teams or individuals.

Wearing protective goggles for the safety of the eye, as well as keeping the finger off the trigger if not yet ready to fire an airsoft gun is two of the most basic rules that constitutes safety. Players are notified not to point their guns at non-players or at unprotected fellow players or animals. Players should also be protected from substandard airsoft AEG. Most airsoft guns are powered by gas or manual cocking spring, sometimes by electric motor or battery. These types of airsoft AEG is safe but when modified, especially the electrical system and is being used with power source higher that what is recommended, it may pose a shock or fire hazard to a player.

Proper clothing attire is important for the safety of the players. A close range shot of 5 feet in a velocity of 300 feet can bruise or break a skin that may result to minor wound and bleeding. Wearing a plain shirt or any thin clothing could not prevent any bruise. Pellets from airsoft guns could cause damage to the eye if not blindness if fired at a close range, that's why eye protection or goggles are compulsory among the players.

It is important that the players wear proper clothing to keep themselves safe while using the air guns. Not wearing protective gear can hurt the skin and might lead to bleeding. Also, the pellets from the air soft guns can cause damage to the eye when fired from a close range. It is therefore important that protective eye gear should be used.

Airsoft games are best played on outdoor ranges and courses, and since it's a military combat simulation, natural surroundings are the ideal place for this exercise. There are factors that are beyond the control of organizers of this game such as animals that often interfere while a game is in play that may pose an impending danger to player. Airsoft players may also suffer injuries from their location, terrains, forest preserves or other types of woodlands. These areas have slippery surfaces, heights, trips, steep slopes, snags, falls or sharpened objects that may cause injuries to players in the height of the game.

There may also be other dangers such as poisonous elements found in plants. Injuries such as broken bones, sprains, cuts or other types of wounds from the game may also happen along with the concern for using protective measures is necessary and using protective gear such as neck and head guards and other protective body armor is necessary. Airsoft gaming standards do not only protect the players, bystanders and non-players. It should also be protected as well in the height of the game.

Those who are observers are required always to keep their facemask on especially during the game. All official rules and regulations are enforced by the referee during the game to make sure that no injuries happen during the game while in play. Some groups have adopted the policy of immediately ceasing a game when someone finds out that a player in the game is not wearing their safety gear and is within the playing area or firing range. This increased regard for safety makes the game elevated to a more professional standard.

There are groups that have made it a rule to stop the game whenever anyone finds out that there is somebody who is not protected in the game. This regard for safety is important while using air guns. Whenever the players come across any person who is not properly protected they should shout "non-combatant" or "cease-fire, blind-man" to issue a warning to the others that are present there. These precautionary measures are important to protect everyone involved in the game. - 16083
